| Q: What does a MAG do? A: A MAG is an air separator, producing low-oxygen air by taking in fresh air and removing some of the oxygen. The low-oxygen air can be used for various types of altitude training including Live High Train Low, Hypoxic Workouts, and Intermittent Hypoxic Training. The air produced is clean, cool, filtered, and fresh:
Q: What is the power source? How much noise does it make? How portable is it? A: The MAG operates on a standard (US) household outlet, 115V, 60 Hz, 400 watts. The MAG-10 is also offered in 220V, 50 Hz model for Europe, Africa and Asia. The average noise level is 50 dBA. The MAG is CE certified. Q: How does the MAG work? A: The Mountain Air Generator produces low-oxygen air by removing a controlled amount of oxygen from air, using a process called Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA). Invented in the 1950's, the recovery of reduced-oxygen air from PSA processes (with carbon dioxide and water as co-products) is a classic process that has been around for more than 30 years. In PSA, air is separated using a molecular sieve material called zeolite. A zeolite is an inert, micro-porous mineral with a cage-like molecular structure, just the right size to allow oxygen to pass freely, while retaining nitrogen, water vapor, and carbon dioxide. The reduced-oxygen air produced by PSA is clean and chemical-free. It contains the normal amount of humidity and carbon dioxide. The process consumes nothing except air and electricity. Q: Does the MAG require chemicals to remove carbon dioxide? A: Carbon dioxide (CO2), a trace gas in the atmosphere and a waste product of respiration, is present in our exhaled breath. Some systems require a constant supply of chemical "scrubbers" to remove excess CO2. The MAG, however, produces an air stream containing no more CO2 than normal fresh air. If you are breathing through a mask, or using the Snowcap Sleeping Canopy, the CO2 in your exhaled breath escapes to the surroundings, and each breath brings in fresh air. Q: What maintenance is required? A: The MAG does not use up any supplies -- the only inputs are air and electricity. Maintenance is almost non-existent. We recommend you wash the air inlet filter on a monthly basis, and replace the bacteria filter each year. Other than that, the unit should operate for years without maintenance. Q: Does the system come with a warranty? A: New systems are warranted for one year for parts and labor, used systems for six months for parts and labor. You can now get three years of coverage for a small additional fee. The MAG is built to give literally thousands of hours of continuous service. Q: Do I need any special attachments to achieve high altitudes? A: No. The MAG goes from sea level up to 20,000 feet (6000 meters) out of the box, without any attachments. |
