He is also the Director of the Sport Management Program at Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC. Dr. Combs consults athletes and members in the military within the special operations community regarding altitude training. He served in the United States Army for 12 years and during this timeframe, Dr. Combs competed and coached fellow Rangers in the Best Ranger Competition in 1985 and 1986. The Best Ranger Competition is a grueling three-day event that is more difficult than the highly publicized Eco-Challenge. To better prepare for the Best Ranger Competition, Dr. Combs competed in numerous half ironman triathlon events as well as racing in USCF races.
